Arteta defends Arsenal keeper Okonkwo after Hibs blunder

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has not lost faith in third-choice goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo after his horrendous mistake against Hibernian.

The 19 year-old had a debut to forget after his mistake allowed Hibernian to score their opening as they stunned Arsenal with a 2-1 win at Easter Road.

Asked about the reaction in the changing room to Okonkwo's mistake, Arteta said: "That hopefully it wasn't him.

"It's his debut so he was so excited. He has earned his place in the first team with everything he has done in the academy level and unfortunately it started like that.

"But things will get better. He will have another chance on Saturday so hopefully he can be better."

Quizzed on if expected his rhythm to evolve over that time. Arteta added: "Absolutely and he's confident in the relationship with his teammates and everything. It's time to support him.

"He is our third goalkeeper and we need to give him confidence."
