Arsenal's Gilberto to choose Panathinaikos over Everton

Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva will resist an offer from Everton to sign with Panathinaikos this week.

The Daily Star says Gilberto has rejected a chance to stay in the Premier League with Everton in favour of a new start with Panathinaikos.

The Athens-based club are expected to land him for around £1m.

Everton boss David Moyes tried to persuade the 31-year-old to join him.

But Gilberto was conscious of how players who have left Arsenal for rival English clubs - most recently Freddie Ljungberg at West Ham - rarely have much success.
