Santi Cazorla says Arsenal teammate Mikel Arteta deserves international recognition.

Cazorla is surprised Arteta has never represented the Spanish national team, but says the fierce competition for places makes it difficult for any player to get a call-up.

"Well, it does surprise me because he is a top player, but at the same time, we always talk about hard it is to get into the national side," he told arsenal.com.

"I think this is an amazing moment for the national side, especially for the number of players in midfield, and he is aware of that.

"He is still very keen to go, and I really hope that he is able to do it. I know it is a dream for him and he is working very hard to get that opportunity."
