Arsenal young gun Akpom breaks drought to fire Hull to victory

Chuba Akpom returned to the scorers' list as Hull City cruised past Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old striker, who is on loan from Arsenal, scored the Tigers' second goal as they defeated the Tractor Boys 3-0 at the KC Stadium.

Alex Bruce had put Hull ahead in the 36th minute with a powerful header after coming on for the injured Curtis Davies inside 20 minutes before Akpom netted his first Tigers goal since the Capital One Cup win over Accrington Stanley in mid-August.

The youngster celebrated with gusto after clinically finishing Moses Odubajo's low cross with a side-footed effort in the 43rd minute.

Hull wrapped up proceedings in the 58th minute when David Meyler volleyed home neatly, sending the Humberside club into the top four on the Championship table.

For his performance, Akpom was named Hull's Man of the Match and was thrilled to contribute to a seventh match without defeat for Steve Bruce's men.

“As a striker when you score it's the best feeling and I haven't been on the scoresheet for a while so it's nice to get back on the scoresheet tonight," Akpom said at Hull's after-match awards presentation on Tigers TV.

“You could see it in my celebration, I was happy. Hopefully there are more goals to come this season.

“We didn't start off too good But as the game went on we got better. We started to get more scoring opportunities and managed to get three goals at the end. That's the most important thing, to get the three points from a good team performance all round."

Akpom now has three goals in 14 appearances in all competitions for Hull.
