Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has targeted Bordeaux's Yoann Gourcuff as the replacement for skipper Cesc Fabregas if he happens to leave. Gourcuff would become the Gunners' record signing if he makes his way to the Emirates Stadium for the reported £21.8million with a source close to the club saying he will be brought in if Fabregas leaves for Barcelona.
"While every effort is being made to keep Cesc at the club the boss is working towards an alternative," the source said.
"He believes Gourcuff's finesse and grace will fit perfectly to Arsenal's way of playing and will make it an almost seamless transition if Cesc does go."
