Arsenal still in CL with narrow defeat at Man Utd

Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia was in inspired form as he restricted Manchester United to a narrow 1-0 win at Old Trafford. United dominated throughout but will still only take a one goal lead to The Emirates next week in the Champions League semi-final first leg with Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez were all denied by the Spanish keeper as Arsenal rarely threatened the Reds.

In the end United were indebted to an unlikely source for their one goal.

On 18 minutes John O'Shea volleyed home Michael Carrick's cross to give Sir Alex Ferguson a narrow lead to defend in the second leg.

Goalscorer John O'Shea knows there is still work to do next week at Arsenal.

Asked if they should have scored more, O'Shea said: "Possibly with the chances we had. Their 'keeper has made a couple of great saves. On our first-half display we could have been a couple more goals up.

"But we have the goal, we kept a clean sheet and we know we're capable of scoring an away goal at the Emirates.

"But it's definitely not over."

He added on Sky Sports 2: "(We tried) to squeeze play up the pitch as much as we could, to keep the pressure on Arsenal.

"It worked very well, especially in the first half. Arsenal are a good team, they kept the ball well at times and it's hard to get it back from them.

"In the second half (at the Emirates) we need to improve on retaining possession.

"Overall we have to be happy."
