Arsenal's Wenger reserves praise for Bendtner

Nicklas Bendtner was handed a rare start as Arsenal edged West Bromwich Albion in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.

The Danish striker provided the through ball which allowed Thomas Eisfeld to open the scoring in the 61st minute before Saido Berahino struck back for the Baggies ten minutes later.

The match ended up going to penalties with Arsenal saluting 4-3 to move through to the fourth round where they will face Chelsea.

One player that pleased Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was Bendtner, who has fallen way down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, but his showing at The Hawthorns was extremely positive.

"I thought overall, he had a good game," the Frenchman said.

"For a guy who has not played for such a long time, and on his own up front, he did very well."

Bendtner could've scored the winner in extra-time but was denied by a brilliant tackle from Craig Dawson.

"What happened to him is what happens to many strikers when they have too much time to score - they wait and wait, and wait for too long. But overall, I thought his game was positive," added Wenger.

"I believe for Nicklas, the most important thing for him is to stay fit. As for the rest, he has the talent - you know that."
