Arsenal's board do not regard Ljungberg as realistic candidate

Arsenal's board do not see Freddie Ljungberg as a realistic prospect for the permanent manager's position.

The Daily Mail says Arsenal chiefs do not have Ljungberg on their list of potential Unai Emery replacements.

Instead, Mikel Arteta, Patrick Vieira, Brendan Rodgers and Massimiliano Allegri are being eyed to take the job.

Arsenal acted swiftly to sack Emery on Friday, less than 24 hours after he'd overseen a difficult 2-1 Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

That match marked seven games without a win for the Gunners, who have named Ljungberg as his replacement.

The Arsenal legend was part of the squad that won the Premier League title in 2004 without losing a game and he's refused to rule out taking the job on a permanent basis.

Yet the 42-year-old isn't on Arsenal's list of potential replacements.
