Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger allowed Manchester United to sign AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao due to his wage demands.
The Daily Star says Wenger made enquiries over his availability following Olivier Giroud's injury.
However, Wenger was put off by Falcao's huge wage demands.
They were deemed far too high for Arsenal, who quickly ended their interest.
The Colombia striker, 28, is now poised to join Manchester United on a season-long loan.
