Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke is among the nominees for a sports executive of the year award in America.

Kroenke, who also owns the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL and the newly-relocated NFL franchise the Los Angeles Rams, is among five sporting leaders vying for the Sports Business Journal/Daily prize.

He is joined on that list by the likes of Joe Lacob, the majority owner of NBA champions the Golden State Warriors, and Nike chief executive Mark Parker.

Comments from the majority owner last week in which he said owners should not buy English clubs “if they want to win championships" earned widespread condemnation from Arsenal fans.
