Arsenal now linked with Cagliari's Marchetti

Arsenal are believed to be lining up a deal for Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

The 27-year old Italian, who stepped in for the injured Gianluigi Buffon at the World Cup, is being targeted by the Gunners who are desperately seeking reinforcements in his position.

Cagliari president Massimo Cellino revealed that the Gunners were after Marchetti and said a deal was very possible.

"Marchetti has expressed his desire to leave," he said.

"The only real club pushing for his signature is Arsenal and we will do everything to make him happy."

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and more recently have shown interest in Ajax stopper Maarten Stekelenburg with Manuel Almunia set to leave for Osasuna.
