Arsenal hope to drive down Montpellier's price for Olivier Giroud by sending Marouane Chamakh back to France as part of the deal.
The Gunners have agreed a fee in the region of £12 million for the France international, who will formally sign after the Euros.
However, Arsenal could convince Montpellier to drop their valuation by including Chamakh in part-exchange.
Montpellier coach Rene Girard has already declared an interest in Chamakh.
