Arsenal looking to swap Podolski for Leverkusen's Calhanoglu

Metro claims that Arsenal are set to offer Lukas Podolski plus cash in exchange for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu.

The report suggests that Arsene Wenger is looking to bolster his midfield options with suggestions that current club captain Mikel Arteta is set to leave the Emirates for David Moyes' Real Sociedad at the end of the season.

It is believed that at the top of the Wenger's list is Turkish international Calhanoglu, who has already scored 10 goals in 37 appearances at his new club after completing a move from Bundesliga rivals Hamburg last summer.

Arsenal faces competition from Catalan giants Barcelona for the services of the Calhanoglu but Wenger is apparently confident of winning the race by offering Podolski plus a sizeable fee in order to meet Leverkusen's £20million valuation.

Podolski is currently on loan at Inter Milan and it's almost certain that his future lies away from north London.
