Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn praised Per Mertesacker for giving teammate Mesut Ozil both barrels at the end of defeat to Manchester City. Mertesacker rapped his good friend for not applauding Arsenal away fans at the final whistle.
Winterburn told talkSPORT: "I like the Mertesacker incident. It shows that he understands what the football club is all about.
"You've got to show respect to your supporters, even after a difficult game, and I think Mertesacker was letting them know that. It's an important incident for the supporters, to say we do care about you, no matter how well we played."
