Arsenal legend Adams: Van Gaal tactics not working for Man Utd

Arsenal legend Tony Adams says Louis van Gaal's tactics do not suit Manchester United.

Indeed, Adams says three at the back fly's in the face of United traditions.

He wrote in the Telegraph: "You can play defensively with five at the back at a World Cup and be strong at set plays.

"Louis van Gaal was successful playing negatively in the World Cup with Holland but this doesn't work for Manchester United as they will be asked to attack in most of their games.

"They do not need three central defenders who are just central defenders, and Van Gaal does not have the kind of central defender who can also do the job of a full-back, which would allow him to do what Terry Venables once did with the formation."
