Arsenal hero Mertesacker on tribute game no-shows: It hurts

Arsenal hero Per Mertesacker admits he felt let down by several former teammates after his testimonial in Germany on the weekend.

While a big success, with 'Per's World Selection' defeating 'Merte's 96 Friends' 10:9, Mertesacker admitted afterwards he was disappointed several invitees failed to appear on the day.

"Some have canceled at short notice. Everyone who was here enjoyed it. Anyone who was not here does not deserve Hannover," said Mertesacker.

"It hurts. You have to think about deleting one or the other numbers."

BILD says two former players who failed to show were Miroslav Klose and Tomas Rosicky. In contrast, Jens Lehmann was happy to play - even though he had an appointment 25 minutes after the final whistle.
