Arsenal hero Martin Keown has backed Liverpool's move for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is set to move for the England international.
And Keown wrote in his column for the Daily Mail: "Dalglish might feel he has the four central defenders he needs but after spending a lot of money on midfielders this summer, you imagine a young, English centre back is next on his list.
"The problem, though, is that there are not that many options because there are so few who fit the bill.
"Bolton's Gary Cahill is certainly a serious option, however, and is a young man with a growing reputation in the game.
"He could also do a lot worse than Matthew Upson, who is quicker than the players he has at his disposal and is a free agent - so no fee."
