Arsenal are well aware that Wenger would be a leading candidate to ­manage Real Madrid should Jose Mourinho leave this summer.

Wenger has been a long-term target for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who sees the problems at Arsenal as the ideal opportunity to finally land the Frenchman.
