Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has accepted his axing from Germany's starting line-up.

Mertesacker says he holds no grudge against coach Joachim Low for the decision.

"These things happen. I knew that it was difficult for the coach, he has a good squad and must make this decision.

"I've recognised it was difficult for him to tell me that."
