Arsenal are watching Sporting Lisbon fullback Cedric Soares. The Daily Star says Arsenal are short of numbers with summer signing Mathieu Debuchy still sidelined by the ankle injury suffered in September.
Reserve right-back Carl Jenkinson is currently on-loan at West Ham and, as part of that deal, cannot be recalled.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sent scouts to Portugal to run the rule over Soares, with a view to making a move in the winter transfer window.
Soares is under contract until 2016 but is refusing to sign an extension and has a release clause of around £7m.
