Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger plans to play captain Thomas Vermaelen in their FA Cup tie with Blackburn Rovers.

The Daily Mail says the Arsenal skipper has missed a fortnight with a troublesome ankle injury and had an anti-inflammatory injection last week in an attempt to clear up the problem.

Vermaelen has trained all week and shown no adverse effect to the procedure, and Wenger is ready to throw the Belgium international back into the fold against Rovers even though the game against Bayern is just round the corner.
