Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has attempted to play down claims from Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud of an approach for Marouane Chamakh.
Bordeaux, in the knowledge that Arsenal have banked £41m from the sales of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City, are demanding £12.5m for Chamakh, who scored 13 goals last season.
Wenger tried to shrug off the Bordeaux president's revelation, saying: "He is responsible for his statements. I wouldn't like to comment on phone calls I give during the day. I could make 100 phone calls. All I can say is we are nowhere near to signing anyone at the moment."
