Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining up a bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

The Daily Mail says Spanish reports suggest Wenger has put the French striker at the top of his hitlist amid concerns about the future of Robin van Persie, who is out of contract in 18 months time and has yet to begin talks about extending his deal at the Emirates.

Real Madrid have been linked with a summer swoop for Van Persie and the Dutchman could be used in a swap deal.

Wenger is a long-term admirer of Benzema, who has scored 14 goals in 23 appearances this season.
