Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has urged Alexandre Lacazette to focus on the task at hand.
Lacazette recently revealed he is in talks with a number of clubs ahead of the expiry of his Arsenal contract in the summer.
Speaking in his press conference before Wednesday's trip to Chelsea, Arteta said: "His contract situation allows him to make the decision about his future.
"We have expressed clearly what our intention is, which is to speak to him in the summer when we know where we are and what we are going to do in the future together.
"For now, we want him fully focused on his duty, which is to defend Arsenal in the best possible way - like he has done every day since he has been with us.
"That's why he's been wearing the armband of this football club.
"He doesn't need to tell me what he does in his own life but he has and we've discussed that and he's entitled to do that. Then has a duty to do his best here."
Arteta said the club had not moved from its stance of waiting to speak to Lacazette about his future at the end of the season.
"That was our position, and our position remains the same - that this is what we are going to do," the Spaniard added.
"The risk of that happening was always there since the moment we made that decision. Then it's up to him because it's not about us or him, it's about both parties."
