Arsenal boss Arteta added to Barcelona president Laporta shortlist

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is on the shortlist of Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

After a disappointing end to the season, Barca coach Ronald Koeman is under pressure to keep hold of his job. He is set to meet with Laporta this week to discuss his situation.

Mundo Deportivo via Le 10 Sport says Laporta is expected to show Koeman the door and begin the search for a replacement.

Al Sadd coach Xavi is favourite, with the former Barca captain still popular amongst the senior players. Significantly, Xavi is now in the city on his summer break after a year away in Qatar.

However, he is not alone with Arteta also being considered.

The Gunners manager is a former Barca player, having joined as a 15 year-old and playing three years of senior football with the B team. Arteta would eventually move to France on-loan at PSG to enjoy his first taste of top-flight football.

Given his Barca background and understanding of the club's culture, Arteta is now being seriously discussed inside the Nou Camp.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez, formerly manager of Everton and a Catalan, is another being discussed inside Laporta's board room as he casts a wide net.
