Arsenal to be without Giroud for remaining CL fixtures

Olivier Giroud is ineligible to play for Arsenal in their final two Champions League group stage matches.

The French striker suffered a serious ankle injury in August which the Gunners thought would keep him out until at least January.

However, the former Montpellier star returned to the Arsenal line-up when coming off the bench to score a stunning half-volley in Saturday's 2-1 home loss to Manchester United.

Arsene Wenger would have been hoping he could nave Giroud available for Wednesday night's Group D meeting with Borussia Dortmund at the Emirates Stadium but the 28-year old was left out of the north London club's 25-man Champions League list which was submitted in September.

Giroud will become eligible to play in the knockout phases of Europe's premier club competition provided Arsenal finish in the top two of their group.
