Arsenal ace Xhaka admits to emotional Basel return

Arsenal's Granit Xhaka has revealed he is feeling quite emotional ahead of his return to FC Basel.

The Swiss midfielder started his career with his hometown club before moving to Germany to join Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012.

Four years after leaving St Jakob-Park, Xhaka will be back as a Gunners player in the Champions League on Tuesday night and he has admitted to feeling some strong emotions ahead of the clash.

Xhaka posted an image on Instagram of him standing in the tunnel at the stadium with the accompanying message:

"The most important step of all is the first step.

"It is so difficult to describe how it feels returning in the stadium where I was born as a football player.

"A unique emotion playing home."

Another picture of he and teammates Mohamed Elneny (also a former Basel player) and Alexis Sanchez had this message alongside it: "Quite an emotional trip for me to Basel, where I had my first steps of my career."
