Ancelotti: Chelsea still in pole position despite defeat

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti told the club's official website that a loss of balance was responsible for Saturday's home defeat against Manchester City. It was the first time the Italian has seen his side defeated at Stamford Bridge, and brought to an end an unbeaten run in SW6 that had lasted 37 games.

"We are disappointed because we lost an important game, we lost the first game in our home but we did a mistake and usually if you do you have lost the game," he lamented. "We have to look forward and maintain control of our confidence and we are top of the list, it is only one point but it is one point. This is not bad. Today is not a good day for us but we have to maintain trust in our quality.

"I thought we were very good in the first half, we scored at the end of the first half and had a possibility for a second with Lampard and then conceded a goal.

"The second half we lost balance and Manchester City were very able to counter-attack, and did a fantastic counter- attack in the second half. It is the first time we lost balance during the game."

"I want to think that we lost the balance because we were two against one the first goal with Tevez, we stayed two against two in the second goal and lost balance in the situation, not individual mistakes."

The Italian remains upbeat, citing the league table as his reason.

"Today I think we have more chance with respect to Manchester United and Arsenal. This is what the table says," he said.
