Amoruso urges Rangers to take stock from Fiorentina

Former Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso has seen two of his old clubs experience severe financial difficulty and admits it is tough to bounce back.

The 40-year old Italian also represented Fiorentina during his playing days and knows very well the job that the Florence club has done after falling into administration, going bankrupt and then dropping into the country's fourth tier.

In 2002, La Viola had to be reformed after things became extremely dire but since then it has all been positive with the club fighting its way back into Serie A and at one stage making the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.

With Rangers also in a vulnerable position financially, Amoruso is conscious that life may not be the same at Ibrox for a little while but says the Glasgow club only need to look at Fiorentina for some motivation to swiftly get back to the top.

"With the way things have been going at Rangers, it is difficult just now to dream about winning trophies again," Amoruso said ahead of next week's fundraising friendly against the legends of AC Milan.

"We don't know what will happen to the club but it might be a long time before there is anything won again.

"The thing is that there is hope as things were a lot worse for Fiorentina, my other old club, who also had financial problems a few years ago.

"Their situation was awful as they went completely bankrupt and they actually had to start all over again in the third tier of Italian football.

"There was a new chairman and new players but at Rangers, the club can hopefully keep everything it has at the moment.

"Of course, it will take time before they are as strong as they were before but hopefully the right people can come in now and help take the club forward.

"Rangers are too big a club for that not to happen in my eyes.

"They are massive and that has never, ever changed."
