American teenager Yao signs with Ipswich Town

American-born winger Devann Yao has signed with English Championship club Ipswich Town.

The 19-year old has been on trial at Portman Road and has done enough to impress manager Roy Keane to offer him a contract despite being sidelined for a month with a shin problem.

The New York native, who has trained and played at youth and reserve levels with French club Metz, Italain club Livorno and Scottish outfit St Mirren, was delighted to have clinched a deal with Ipswich.

"I've really enjoyed my time here and I'm very happy that I now have the chance to play for Ipswich," he told the club's official website.

"I'm here until the summer and hopefully in that time I can break into the first team.

"If I can play one or two games then that would mean I'm making progress.

"They have been really positive to me and now the challenge is to keep improving and try and win myself a new contract in the summer."
