Allen happy to contribute to Liverpool triumph

Joe Allen wasn't completely pleased with his performance for Liverpool on Monday night but was happy just to get the win.

The Reds returned to the Premier League's winners' list after losses to Manchester United and Arsenal with a 2-0 home result over Newcastle United courtesy of goals from Raheem Sterling and a fine close-range volley from Allen.

After the match, the Welsh midfielder spoke of his joy in doing his bit as the Merseysiders went within four points of fourth-placed Manchester City.

"It was great to get that goal to give us that two-goal cushion," Allen told Sky Sports 1.

"It wasn't my best game but I got the goal and helped the team. It was important after the defeats."
