Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen believes the club have the squad depth to cope with the absence of banned striker Luis Suarez. Suarez, who ended the campaign with 30 goals, shouldered goalscoring responsibility for the Reds almost single-handedly until the arrival of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho in January.

With Iago Aspas having joined this summer from Celta Vigo, the Wales international feels the club have a stronger attacking line-up.

"Maybe that was a slight problem last year in that we didn't quite get the players we wanted in time and it left the squad a bit bare at times," said Allen.

"There were a lot of games, especially early on in the season, when we didn't quite get the breakthrough goal.

"But with the quality that has been brought in to add to the quality we already have, you can see the attacking way we want to play and we are reaping the rewards of that.

"This season we have had the chance to get players in early, which has been great to allow us to have a full pre-season working together.

"If we have any injuries or suspensions we have players who can step in and do the job just as well, so I think the signs are really positive in those regards."
