Allardyce; West Ham fringe players not impressing

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is still smarting from seeing his fringe players lose 4-1 at home to Wigan in the League Cup, and claims the future of that young side at Upton Park could be in jeopardy. "I've had a few days to reflect on our 4-1 Capital One Cup defeat at home to Wigan and I'm still just as upset as straight after the match," Allardyce told the London Evening Standard.

"What really disappoints me is that, after all the hard work we put in during pre-season and such a fantastic start, we offered up a performance like that.

"I just don't accept what happened in any shape or form and the players are putting their West Ham careers in jeopardy.

"Someone on TV made the point that, of the Manchester United squad which lost to Crystal Palace in the League Cup last November, nine players have since left the club.

"It's a similar scenario at most clubs. If you get a chance you have to grab it because everyone must realise that time is short these days."
