Liverpool icon John Aldridge says they must take the Carling Cup seriously this season.
The Reds face Exeter City tonight.
"The Carling Cup is a priority for Liverpool this season and that's something we haven't said for many years," Aldridge told liverpoolfc.tv.
"We want to get to Wembley and this competition offers us a great chance of doing that.
"It will be interesting to see what kind of team Kenny Dalglish fields against Exeter City tomorrow night.
"It's a huge banana skin and I don't think we can afford to take any chances.
"There are players who would benefit from another game like Dirk Kuyt and Andy Carroll.
"I'm sure Jamie Carragher will play and you would expect the likes of Martin Skrtel, Jon Flanagan, Raul Meireles, Jay Spearing and Maxi Rodriguez to come in."
