Liverpool legend John Aldridge is convinced they can still trump Manchester United for fourth place.
The Reds sit four points behind Louis van Gaal's side, ahead of the two sides respective meetings with Chelsea and Crystal Palace this weekend.
"We've all got our own opinions on it [a potential guard of honour] and I'm not going to say what mine are but if they do it let's go and catch Chelsea on an off day," declared Aldridge, writing in his Liverpool Echo column.
"Let's really fight for that fourth spot because if Manchester United slip up it could be the most surprising end to the season ever by us winning our last three games.
"United have lost three on the bounce and they've got Crystal Palace away which is no gimme, Arsenal at home - certainly no gimme - and then Hull City away who'll be fighting tooth and nail to stay up so you just don't know.
"Don't get me wrong it's still unlikely but they've given us a lifeline and we should try and take it."
