Alderweireld: Spurs boss Pochettino knows my commitment

Toby Alderweireld has shut down talk of leaving Tottenham.

Alderweireld says his focus is purely on Tottenham as the countdown on his £25m escape clause continues to tick.

The Belgian defender can leave the club for the set figure before Thursday.

Alderweireld, who impressed for Mauricio Pochettino's side last year, was named captain in Sunday's 3-2 friendly victory over Juventus in Singapore.

"I think the manager knows I am committed to the club and the team but you never know in football," he said.

"A game like Sunday I was captain - so that shows the manager has trust in me and I'm showing the right attitude."

Alderweireld has admirers in England and abroad, although Roma are struggling to match the release clause.

"I want to say one thing," he added. "My focus is on Spurs and I try to deliver the job I need to do - I'm happy and that's it. In my head I will be playing for Spurs."
