Alcides: Chelsea situation awful

Alcides admits he is in limbo at Chelsea.

Alcides, 21, said: "I am in an awful situation. I have a contract with Chelsea and no other club. I am now waiting for what Chelsea want to do. Do they want me in their first team or will they decide to sell me? I have no idea what my future is."

When Alcides, then 18, arrived from Brazilian club Vitoria for a reported fee of £2.5million, it was suggested that he had been signed as a makeweight in a deal for Chelsea to buy Ajax full back Hatem Trabelsi.

But after that plan fell through, and amid rumours that Chelsea were worried about obtaining a work permit for the big defender, Alcides was sent on loan to Benfica. In January 2007, he joined PSV in an 18-month loan deal. FIFA and UEFA warned that if the Chelsea controlled contingent increased at PSV, who they could have to face in the Champions League, Chelsea could be excluded from Europe's main competition.
