Ajax target Bergwijn confirms potential Tottenham exit as World Cup looms

Steven Bergwijn has cast doubt over his future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Ajax tried hard to sign the Netherlands winger in January, but Antonio Conte did not want to sell and has since hinted he wants Bergwijn to stay beyond this summer.

But the 24-year-old wants regular playing time and could leave Spurs in order to win a place in the Netherlands squad for this year's World Cup.

"A place in the starting line up? Here? I honestly don't think so," Bergwijn told Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad.

"The attack works well, but I don't get to play much.

"A return to the Netherlands would certainly be an option for me. The World Cup is coming. Mr. Van Gaal, the national coach, brought me into the selection last time, even though I didn't play much.

"Then you come back to the club and you barely play. It is a shame, of course. In the summer we really have to look for a solution."
