Newcastle United are being encouraged to bid for Ajax fullback Gregory van der Wiel.

The Evening Chronicle says Newcastle have been offered Van der Wiel.

The full-back's contract is up at the end of the season and he is another that would favour a move to Tyneside.

However, the right-back is likely to see his dream scuppered by the arrival of Mathieu Debuchy from Lille.
