Ajax attacker Quincy Promes on losing to Chelsea: Never offside

Ajax attacker Quincy Promes insists his goal against Chelsea should've stood last night.

Promes had Ajax 1-0 ahead in the Champions League tie - but VAR ruled it out for offside. Chelsea went onto win 1-0 thanks to Michy Batshuayi's goal.

“It was very funny that it was rejected, I don't know if it was offside," said Promes.

"But afterwards, of course, I don't buy anything from it. You can see it in two ways. I could say in my favour that it was not offside, but we have to accept the VAR.

“I think the central defender was still there and he was still changing direction. I feel that I came from behind the shot when the ball had already left."

He added: “There was a big battle and ultimately you hope that we will at least have a draw. So it is extra bitter that we are now empty-handed."
