Aguero the man for Atletico Madrid

Premier League target Sergio Aguero was the man for Atletico Madrid, scoring twice to send them through to the Europa League quarter-finals on away goals.

Following the scoreless first leg against Sporting Lisbon, the Spanish club travelled to Portugal where it seemed as though they would face an enormous task to qualify for the final eight.

But things began well when Aguero side-footed from close range in the 3rd minute to give Atletico a perfect start. However, the lead only lasted 16 minutes as Sporting's Liedson struck back with a powerful header.

Not to be outdone, Aguero made it 2-1 to Atletico just after the half-hour mark when he slotted coolly past Sporting keeper Rui Patricio.

Two away goals was looking good for the Spaniards but they still had their work cut out for them, especially when Anderson Polga got a slight touch on the ball to help it past David De Egea to tie it up at 2-2.

The second half provided no goals for either side, allowing Atletico to hold on with an away goal advantage and move through to the next phase of the competition.
