The agent of Ron Vlaar says the Feyenoord defender was the subject of internal politics at Aston Villa.

Vlaar has accepted a move to Villa is now off after visiting the club last week.

Agent Arnold Oosterveer told the De Telegraaf that Vlaar was told by manager Paul Lambert he had to wait before a deal could be done.

"He said 'we need to sell'. But Ron is a player of the highest calibre, so you shouldn't treat him like that."
