After Villa, son of Birmingham star Mooney trials with Sevilla

The son of former Birmingham City striker Tommy Mooney has been offered trials by Spanish Liga Sevilla.

Dad Tommy was a former Blues striker who hung up his boots last year after an impressive career spanning 21 years and 13 clubs.

Now son Kelsey could be about to follow in his father's footsteps as a speedy right winger with a club playing in La Liga.

The ten-year-old Mooney, formerly on Aston Villa's books, has been making waves in Spanish third division Marbella's academy and has now been offered a trial with Sevilla.

Mooney Snr joined Marbella last summer after leaving Walsall, then retired shortly after Christmas. But he plans to remain in Spain with his family.

"I've had a great time in Spain. The kids are fluent in Spanish and we're going to stay here," Mooney told the Sunday Mercury.

"Kelsey is with Marbella's academy and he's just been offered a trial with Sevilla. He started as a striker but he now plays on the right wing. He's got a lot of pace but I don't know where that came from."
