Chelsea are launching a bid for Benfica defender David Luiz. The Daily Express says Chelsea last night opened the way for a £27million move for Benfica's Brazilian centre-back David Luiz, as they agreed a deal to sell Ricardo Carvalho to Real Madrid.
Carvalho, 32, ended a six-year stint at Chelsea in which he made 210 appearances and won three Premier League titles and two FA Cups, as he agreed a two-year deal with Real and his former manager Jose Mourinho. Real will pay £6.65 million.
Chelsea are now looking to make it a double swoop on Benfica for Luiz and midfielder Ramires.
A deal with Ramires, who like Luiz was involved with Brazil's game with the USA in New Jersey last night, has been clinched at £18.2m and is only waiting for a work permit.
