Adelaide United's Reid has red card rescinded

Adelaide United midfielder Paul Reid has had his red card stricken from the records by the independent Match Review Panel.

The 31-year old was shown a straight red for his part in a challenge which forced Gold Coast United defender John Curtis to be stretchered off in the scoreless draw at Skilled Park on Wednesday night.

Reid and Curtis attacked a 50/50 ball in the 80th minute of the match with the Englishman coming off second best in an awkward fall that saw him grounded for a number of minutes.

After Curtis was carried off the pitch, referee Chris Beath brandished a red, signaling the end of Reid's night but it seemed to be a harsh penalty for pure ball player who has only collected eight yellow cards in three A-League seasons.

The MRP considered an Obvious Error (Red Card) Application by Adelaide and Reid which was the upheld, meaning the red card is expunged from the record of the player and he is not required to serve a sanction.
