Adelaide United's Gombau voted in as A-League All-Stars boss

Adelaide United head coach Josep Gombau has been voted in as the coach of the FOXTEL A-League All-Stars team for 2014.

The former Barcelona youth coach won just under 40% of votes from an online poll opened to 16,000 voters on the A-League All-Stars website.

Gombau, who has led the Reds to fourth place on the table in his debut season in Australia, beat Brisbane Roar's Mike Mulvey and Western Sydney Wanderers' Tony Popovic to the job and was humbled to be voted in as the All-Stars boss for the clash with Juventus in Sydney on August 10.

"It is an honour for me that the Australian fans have asked me to coach the All Stars team and I will bring my best passion and desire to the job," Gombau said.

"We will play good football and try to play positive against Juventus.

"I would like to thank the Australian fans for voting for me and I am very interested to see which players they also select for this special match."

A-League fans will now vote for the squad that Gombau will lead into action against the Bianconeri. From today (Tuesday), fans can vote for their favourite Hyundai A-League player by logging onto www.a-leagueallstars.com.au/vote before the polls close at 11pm on 4 May 2014 (Hyundai A-League Grand Final night).
