Adelaide United chairman Dario Fontanarosa will step down from his role at the club in a shock move.

Fontanarosa is expected to meet with Reds chief executive Sam Ciccarello today.

Sources say increasing business commitments are the cause of the chairman's departure who is also chief executive of the Bianco Building Group and also owns the United franchise.
