Adelaide assistant Stubbins launches verbal attack on Gold Coast's Bleiberg

Adelaide United assistant coach Phil Stubbins has reacted to comments made by Gold coast United boss Miron Bleiberg. Bleiberg labelled Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar as 'Mr. Average', saying he would used negative tactics when Gold Coast meet Adelaide at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.

Stubbins replied to Bleiberg's taunts, saying: "Miron is coming up against a team and coach in his third year who last year almost won the minor championship, played in the final of the Champions League and featured in the Club World Cup.

"Getting offside with opposition coaches, calling Viddie Mr Average is an insult - it lacks respect."

Stubbins is well positioned to judge both Bleiberg and Vidmar.

"I have worked with both men. I could give my opinions on who I would rather work for and it's the one coaching Adelaide," said Stubbins, 2005 Victorian State League coach of the year while at Heidelberg.

"This is Miron's second effort in the A-League. I think he has become a professional talker."

Stubbins went on to say that Bleiberg had been given an easy job in charge of a very well-off club.

"Miron has been very fortunate to be given the wheel, driving the ship of the a club that is backed by one of the most wealthy men in Australia," Stubbins added.

"He has also got some fantastic players on board and when you spend $1.5 million on three players then you could expect them to be playing champagne football."
