Adebayor on mark as Spurs defeat Schalke

Tottenham ended their pre-season on a high with 2-1 win over Schalke at White Hart Lane.

Emmanuel Adebayor opened the scoring in the first half after being set up by Lewis Holtby and Roberto Soldado doubled Spurs' advantage after the restart by scoring from close range.

Kevin-Prince Boateng halved his former side's lead by firing past Hugo Lloris with 10 minutes left but Spurs, who were being watched by former striker Jermain Defoe, held on for victory.

The fact that Soldado, who only netted six league goals in his debut campaign in north London last season, got on the scoresheet will be of huge relief to head coach Mauricio Pochettino, whose side kick off their Barclays Premier League campaign at West Ham next Saturday.
