Adebayor insists: 'I have NEVER criticised Tottenham fans'

Emmanuel Adebayor has made it clear that he did not intend to make negative comments regarding Tottenham supporters.

The Togolese striker suggested after the 2-1 loss to Stoke City at White Hart Lane on Sunday that perhaps Spurs are better playing away from home so they are not booed and jeered by the fans.

But Adebayor has since come out and said that the words that came out of his mouth were supposed to bring the crowd and the team together as the north London club looks to get their flailing season back on track.

"I would like to clarify some recent reports in the newspapers," said Adebayor in a statement.

"I have NEVER criticised Tottenham fans. I just merely suggested that it would be more positive if they got behind the team more.

"I love the club as do all the players in the dressing room. We would all do anything to make this team win but like most people we respond better to praise than criticism.

"We will get this right. Please bear with us and we will improve."

Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham currently sit 12th on the Premier League table with 14 points from their opening 11 matches.
